Students are required to read at least 20 minutes each night.
Students are required to write weekly letters to explain the thinking that is happening.
Reading Letters are due each Thursday.
The details for the assignment are in the Reading Notebook on an orange/yellow paper. The basic assignment is for students to be reading throughout the week and to write me a three paragraph letter about the reading.
The first paragraph should tell me the book title and then quickly summarize what has most recently happened in the book.

- Write a connection he has to the book. This can be any way that the book reminds the student of anything else (another book, a movie, an experience, etc.)
- Write a prediction of what might happen later in the book. Explain why you think that may happen.
- Write an evaluation of the book. This is basically an opinion of the book, the writing style, the characters, the characters' decisions, etc.
- Write about a Signpost he noticed while reading. Signposts are reading strategies that we have learned in class.
